Herning Korforening
Herning Korforening was founded back in 1941 – and is still going strong! We are a mixed choir singing a classical repertoire from a period starting from the middle age up to contemporary music. Our texts are in Danish, Latin, English and German – sometimes French. We are about 25 singers –our daily musical leader is Søren Bormann, 35 years old, candidate of musicology and organ player at the church of Odder. He teaches musicology and classical civilization at Marselisborg Gymnasium in Aarhus, and is the director of two choirs.
The choir is developing towards singing every second year with one or two other choirs.
For 3 years, 2018-2021, we have been in a pilot project with a network organization called “Herning Synger” (Singing in Herning) and The Jutland School of Singing. In this project we made projects for 7-11 weeks at a time with two final concerts. The project form worked so well that we still make projects of approximately 3-4 months each.
This autumn our project no. 20 runs from the 1 October to the 20 January 2025. Right now we are in the final for our rehearsals for the Christmas Concert at Sct. Johannes Church which has a beautiful sound. Right after the beginning the beginning of 2025 we have our traditional New Year’s concert at Herningsholm on the 20 January, with bobbles and snacks and coffee.
Our next project no. 21 runs from 27 January to 6 April; the project is a co-work between Herning Korforening, Gesta Danorum – classical choir from Holstebro conducted by Frida Hvelplund- and Aarhus Studenter-Sangere, conducted by Miki Hildebrandt. We are going to sing “Elverskud” by the Danish composer Niels W. Gade, and “ Fyensk Foraar” by Carl Nielsen, and for the latter a children´s choir will participate, as well as instrumentalists from the music conservatory in Aarhus, as well as solo singers Marian Mikkelsen, Miki Hildebrandt, Daniel Kjær Holmberg. These Danish parts will be performed the 5-6 April 2025 in churches in Herning, Holstebro and Viborg.
A way of joining the choir is to apply for membership via the FOF.dk where you can have membership for half a year at the time, the spring season and the autumn season, about 20 rehearsals per half year.

You are welcome to join us on the dates mentioned in the “Korinformation” (Information to the Choir) on the homepage and experience for yourself! We usually have 3 free rehearsals followed by a test to place you in the right group, if there is a doubt.
Rehearsals take place on The Jutland School of Singing, Nørregade 7D, in “KORSALEN”, 7400 Herning, mondays from 7 to 9.15 PM.
