The Classical Choir Society -
Herning Korforening was founded back in 1941 – and is still going strong! We are a mixed choir singing a classical repertoire from a period starting from the middle age up to contemporary music. Our texts are in Danish, Latin, English and German – sometimes French. We are about 25 singers –our daily musical leader is Søren Bormann, 31 years old, candidate of musicology and organ player at the church of Odder. He teaches at high schools in Aarhus and conducts two other choirs in the area about Aarhus, too.
The choir is developing towards singing every second year with one or two other choirs.
In this period, from autumn 2018 until autumn 2021, we are in a pilot project with a network organization called “Herning Synger” (Singing in Herning) and The Jutland School of Singing. In this project, we are making projects for 7-11 weeks at a time with two final concerts.
Our next project is Gabriel Faurés Requiem and som smaller pieces from Danish composers. We begin in August the 10th until October the 25th, Where we are hopefully going to work with a singing master some of the time. The 3 choirs, Gesta Danorum, Viborg Kammerkor and ourselves will be rehearsing on our own I August and September, and the last 3 rehearsal evenings will be together in the different churches. Finally, we make concerts the Church of Holstebro, Sct. Johannes Church in Herning, and Houlkjær Church in Viborg on the 24th and 25th of October.
You are welcome to join us on the dates mentioned in the “Korinformation” (Information to the Choir) on the homepage and experience for yourself!
Rehearsals take place on The Jutland School of Singing, Nørregade 7D, in “KORSALEN”, 7400 Herning Mondays from 7 to 9.15 p. m.
